Plane Crash Kills Deputy Chief Minister of India’s Maharashtra

(MENAFN) A fatal aviation disaster claimed the life of Maharashtra's deputy chief minister early Wednesday, authorities confirmed.

Ajit Pawar perished when his private aircraft went down in Baramati city within the western Indian state, Indian media reported.

The aircraft was transporting a total of five individuals—Pawar and three additional passengers, alongside a two-person flight crew. Preliminary reports indicate no one survived the catastrophe.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy, stating Pawar's "untimely demise is very shocking and saddening."

"He was widely respected as a hardworking personality at the forefront of serving the people of Maharashtra … condolences to his family and countless admirers," Modi said on US social media company X.

The prime minister added that his "thoughts are with all those who lost their loved ones in the crash."

Emergency response teams are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident that claimed all five lives aboard the doomed flight.
